The beginning...a few life goals and counting.

It has been a goal of mine for quite sometime to begin to write more.  I’ve made more than enough excuses, (work, school, this and that).  I made the decision on yesterday that I would start now. I’ve always wanted to start a blog and even write a book.  This is my opportunity to write freely about whatever I want without even thinking about APA guidelines and without having to worry about grammatical errors and sentence structure. So here’s the beginning…

Welcome to my Blog, F.I.T.S. of Kem, or Faith Is The Substance of Kem.  I decided to use F.I.T.S. as the title of my blog, because it is taken from one of my favorite scriptures; Hebrews 11:1 (NLT) says, “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”  Without faith, I know that I can’t do anything.  Faith has been the substance of everything that I am and everything that I aspire to be (or do).  I’ve noticed that when I lack faith, I lack confidence, I over analyze and fail to even start what it was that I originally sought out to accomplish.

Yesterday, my pastor, Shaun King began his 100 Life Goal series… again.  I was there the first time he preached it *sigh*. During that time, I made a short list of goals, typed them up and saved them on my lap-top. Not long after I had typed my goals up and threw away the original, my laptop was stolen when my home was burglarized. Great! (so I thought). I had yet another excuse to not ever look at those goals again.  They were gone.  I hardly even remembered what I had written anyway. I did manage to think about them from time to time and even managed to reach one of them; I completed my first 10k road race on the 4th of July.  Only 99 more goals to go. So…

This time around, I am creating an even better list. I’m going to do everything I can to attain them.  No excuses.  Pastor Shaun recommends using Mark Batterson’s guidelines (http://www.sermoncentral.com/scdownloads/10steps.pdf ) for creating your 100 Life Goal list.

There are 5 categories:
1)      Family goals
2)      Travel goals
3)      Physical goals
4)      Experience goals
5)      Influence goals

I have started making my list… again. One of my goals was to start a blog. I’m praying that blogging will be my preparation for writing my book.  I’ve began to make a short list of some goals, but I have not placed them into categories yet and they are not listed in order of importance. So far my goals are to:

1)      Be debt free (lingering student loans)
2)      Write a book and have it published (not sure about the topic yet)
3)      Learn to play piano
4)      Live overseas for 2-3 years
5)      Become more fluent in Spanish
6)      Feed 10,000 people
7)      Help 7 people achieve one or more of their life goals
8)      Go on a vacation with my parents, son, brother, sister-in-law and nephews and niece
9)      Help my son to become bilingual

I still have a long way to go. I plan to add to them and keep this blog updated with my progress.
I’m one of those people who believes that my life has a soundtrack J I can think of a song for almost any situation or circumstance. Music is therapeutic for me. I will more than likely have a song at the end of each blog posting.   With that said, a couple of weeks ago, I received this e-mail from my dad:

Kemberly,
Our band had to do this song request at a wedding this past weekend. Upon first hearing the song, it made and makes me think of my hope in you. I put the attached lyrics in a poem form and included the YouTube link.
I Love you and am so proud of you!

"I Hope You Dance" - Lee Ann Womack

I Hope You Dance – Lee Ann Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder.
You get your fill to eat, but always keep that hunger.
May you never take one single breath for granted.
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed.
I hope you still feel small when you stand by the ocean.
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens.
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance.
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
,

I hope you dance! I hope you dance!

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance.
Never settle for the path of least resistance.
Living might mean taking chances, but they're worth taking.
Lovin' might be a mistake, but it's worth making.

Don't let some hell-bent heart leave you bitter.
When you come close to selling out, reconsider.
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance.
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance! I hope you dance!

Time is a real and constant motion,
Always rolling us along.
Tell me who wants to look back on their youth and wonder,
Where those years have gone.

I hope you dance! I hope you dance!

I hope that I can encourage many of you to “dance”!
Let me know what you think. I’d love to hear from you.
